About Waterfront Shores, Hamilton

Waterfront Shores is a new condo and townhouse development by Tercot Communities and Cityzen Development Group currently in preconstruction at 44 Guise Street East, Hamilton. Waterfront Shores has a total of 1500 units. Tercot Communities has partnered with Cityzen on a new development in Hamilton called, Waterfront Shores. This urban project has been proposed with four core elements that, when put into effect, will ensure a well rounded community. The first of these elements is the Waterfront Shores, which will ensure the development will stay true to the roots of city’s history as a major port town, by preparing for the impact of industrial noise to ensure the area provides growth instead of hindering it. Laneways will be the second step in creating the ideal community, as they will make the comings and goings of vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians seamless. Ground floor animation is the next — and particularly important — aspect of this project. The current design is putting emphasis on revitalizing the ground plan to be the best possible place to build an energetic and dynamic neighbourhood. This will be achieved through laneways and sidewalks due to its intended design of being a largely walkable network that enables residents and Hamiltonians to coexist comfortably. The final element of urban innovation integrated into this development will be the use of local materials. Sustainability will be a particular focus of this development, as it is recognized that neighbourhoods need to grow organically. The project is seeking LEED Gold Version 4 Certification, as well as WELL Multifamily Building Certification. It will prioritize healthy, active living as well as green space and green roofs. It is being designed with the intention of establishing a green community that utilizes nature’s healing and therapeutic benefits by providing ample green space in the form of park systems and the water’s edge. The buildings will also feature 60 percent green roofs. The landscaping will boast green parkland themes in the courtyards, as well as buildings that will provide livable habitat for wildlife, lower urban air temperature, and storm water retention capabilities to add insulation. In addition to implementing green-friendly elements to the landscape, the site’s surface will also be home to courtyards and laneways that will better connect pedestrians and cyclists in the community. In fact, each block will see the addition of 1.6 walkable landscape. Residents and visitors will have access to pathways that have been specially designed to connect them with the community and water. It is clear through the elements implemented to connect pedestrians in the waterfront neighbourhood that this will be a pedestrian centric urban development worth of investment. All streets will lead to the water. The landscaping is being designed with scenic walks in mind, to provide a community that isn’t just urban, but a place for residents to establish roots and grow.
